2024 Recap: Stitching Resilience and Celebration
As we close 2024, we reflect on a year of challenges and inspiration for the Palestinian community. Despite hardships, Tatreez Collective (TC) worked tirelessly to preserve and share the rich heritage of Palestinian embroidery globally. This year marked incredible growth, collaboration, and cultural celebration.
Teaching Tatreez: A Milestone Reached
In 2024, 715 individuals learned Palestinian Tatreez through TC, bringing our total to 1,052 learners. Across 33 workshops, participants engaged in sessions ranging from introductory classes to bespoke projects, weaving a global community through every stitch.
Collective Pieces: Art and Community
We initiated two significant collective projects:
Yaffa Chest Panel: In partnership with Westminster Council, 90 pieces are being stitched to create the largest-ever Yaffa Thobe chest panel. The masterpiece will debut in early 2025.
Tatreez Forest: With the Arab British Center, participants from 23 countries contributed patterns for large Tatreez trees. From UK museum workshops to a global callout, this project showcases the unifying power of art and will be exhibited next year.
Additionally, we completed our first collective piece with La Casa Arabe in Spain, demonstrating the universal appeal of Tatreez.
Global Reach
Our mission expanded with workshops in the UK, Spain, and France. Participants from 23 countries joined our projects, highlighting the global resonance of Palestinian embroidery.
Artisan Support
We deepened ties with West Bank artisans, launching an online shop to showcase their work and support their craft economically.
Bespoke Clothing and Stitching Stories
This year, we introduced a bespoke clothing line featuring custom Tatreez designs crafted by Palestinian women. Our Stitching Stories initiative celebrated workshop participants’ hands, honoring their role in preserving culture.
A Digital Leap
We launched TheTatreezCollective.co.uk, a hub for stories, blogs, and products. This platform strengthens our mission’s digital presence and fosters community engagement.
Looking Ahead to 2025
Thank you for your support in 2024. Together, we’ll continue celebrating and preserving Palestinian embroidery in 2025 and beyond.
